Logline/Synopsis:

A non-stop, pulse-pounding, historical-fiction period piece, Exile is best described as a Cuban Count of Monte Cristo. A classic story of love, betrayal, and revenge set in two time periods - Cuba 1950s/60s and Miami 1970s.  Exile is a multi-season historical fiction, one-hour dramatic series that braids fascinating historical facts with adrenaline-pumping fiction that produces compelling, prestige, binge-worthy tv.

A cold-war-style historical fiction thriller set in Cuba and Miami over twenty years, this classic "love, betrayal, revenge" story is set in motion when a Cuban Military Officer is betrayed by his colleagues, framed for murder, and thrown in jail the night before his wedding. All he can think of is revenge. Thirteen years later, he escapes the horrors of Castro's Cuban prison, arriving in Miami, where his former military comrades and their high-society Cuban wives all live successful, high-profile lives. All of that is about to change.

"EXILE" THE TV PILOT REPURPOSED AS

A SHORT STORY & A SHORT FILM SCRIPT

"BEFORE EXLE" — A SHORT STORY

Using the long-form treatment of the series (27 pages) - presenting high-level story engines and character arcs, etc., that reflect the potential for multiple seasons, the short story narrative prose drew upon "back story character elements" that powerfully demonstrates episode and season potential.

The short story commences at the point in which the inciting/key incident of the TV pilot/show begins, AND THEN, going "backward" from there rewriter produced a literary narrative of the "lives" of these characters that weave together key storyline/story engine elements that comes full circle, bringing us "back to today/present time" of the show/series.

The short story is intended to demonstrate the interesting, fascinating world inhabited by a wide range of diverse Cuban characters not often seen on network/prestige television.

SHORT FILM SCRIPT — "ON MY WAY TO EXILE"

Using the TV Pilot, "Exile," as source material, Mustard wrote "On My Way to Exile,” a 31-page short film script whereby Mustard excerpted key scenes from the pilot but also created/added new scenes representative of the back story of some of the series’ key characters. The short film’s goal serves as an exciting extended teaser/trailer for the tv series reflecting this fascinating post-cold war world set in Cuba & Miami.
